Lokal is something for everyone. We do great coffee in the mornings then great beer in the evenings. We only serve one beer on draught – Pilsner. In Singapore the local beer, Tiger, is the most popular, but Pilsner is gaining respect and popularity now. Beer is expensive in Singapore – it’s $12 here – so people complain about foam. I tell them that they need a foam moustache! To be a good Tapster you need passion. Anyone can be a Tapster – but it’s up to you whether you go deeper. Everyone has a different style. You need to be able to build a rapport with everyone. People are amazed that a woman knows about beer. They are shocked. I’m an example – I want to be an inspiration to others. The Tapster Programme is such a great opportunity for me. I am blessed to be able to train, learn and gain knowledge. I am so proud of building up other people to go higher. My philosophy is: Don’t think you can’t – you can! I feel success when I’ve motivated staff. I started with zero knowledge – and look where I am now!
If you were a beer, what beer would you be?
I’d be a Pilsner Urquell. So much passion goes into it. That’s me. I’m all about great beer and great quality.
