Perfect pouring

The Journey of Pilsner Urquell from Keg and Tank to Glass

1 min. reading

Pilsner Urquell travels a long way from our hop and barley farmers in the Czech Republic to your glass. Every step of the way, we work hard to make sure you get to enjoy the freshest Pilsner Urquell possible. At Pilsner Urquell pubs and Tankovna bars, this means controlling everything that happens until your first sip.

When we deliver Pilsner Urquell in kegs or tank trucks, we go out of our way to control the temperature and freshness of the beer. We drive unpasteurised golden lager to Tankovna bars within 48 hours, and once it arrives the Tapster has to take care of it. That means cleaning the taps and beer lines and monitoring the flavour and freshness of the golden lager during its seven-day shelf life. Keg beer lasts longer, but must be stored at the right temperature.

From the vacuum-sealed bag inside the tank at a Pilsner Urquell Tankovna bar, our beer comes through pipes to the tap with reverse pressure. Kegs use C02 or a mixture of CO2 and nitrogen to push the beer from the keg through pipes to the tap. Either way, it should be poured with a thick head of dense, wet foam into a clean, cold, wet glass!

Our Brewmaster is responsible for the flavour of Pilsner Urquell until the moment it leaves the brewery. The Tapster is the final step in the journey of our golden lager. That’s why we train our Tapsters to pour Pilsner Urquell perfectly every time. Na zdraví!
